World Championship action has been postponed today due to fog and heavy snow ©TwitterMen's Super G action at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail and Beaver Creek has been postponed today due to fog and heavy snowfall.

The postponement was announced by the FIS via Twitter following an inspection by the race jury ahead of the scheduled 11am start, with the conditions meaning there is no chance of it happening at any point today.

A new programme will be confirmed shortly following a meeting of the FIS Emergency Committee.

Defending world champion Ted Ligety of the United States and Norway's Olympic gold medallist Kjetil Jansrud will be among the favourites when action belatedly gets underway.

The World Championships opened yesterday in the Colorado resort with Austria's Anna Fenninger becoming the first woman to win consecutive Olympic and world Super-G titles after finishing ahead of Slovenia Tina Maze and home US star Lindsey Vonn.

On that occasion, the competition was also delayed, but only by 30 minutes due to snowfall and strong winds.

Action is set to continue in Vail and Beaver Creek until February 15.
