Prevc's two jumps in the ski jumping competition saw the Slovenian  end on an unassailable 276.4 points to finish ahead of Four-Hills Tournament winner Stefan Kraft, whose 127.5 and 131 metre jumps saw him finish 5.1 points behind, but achieve his sixth podium finish in a row.

The podium was completed by Roman Koudelka, who finished with 269.3 points, following jumps of 127.5 and 131m.

"I feel amazing today," said Prevc, after his victory.

"I've been in the top 10 in almost every competition this winter, but this was finally my first victory.

"The conditions were untypical for Sapporo and I liked it very much.

"I don't think about the overall World Cup yet, it will be decided in Scandinavia, not before."

The runner up Kraft praised Prevc in the aftermath, while remaining positive about his own form, admitting "he deserves his first win of the season".

"I don't know why I'm so good right now, it just goes well for me," he said.

Meanwhile, Eric Frenzel continued his excellent form in the Nordic combined, finishing ahead of Japan's home favourite Akito Watabe and Taylor Fletcher of the US, who finished second and third respectively.

The ski jumping round saw Austria's Fabian Steindl jump 138m to earn himself a 26 second head start over the second placed Frenzel in the cross country race.

The German Frenzel was able to close the gap to Steindl as he joined forces with Manuel Faiβt and Yoshito Watabe and the leaders were joined in the later stages by Akito Watabe and Taylor Fletcher, with Fletcher launching a late attack.

The American was unable to shake off Frenzel and Akito Watabe into the closing stages and paid for his high energy attack in front of a raucous crowd, with Frenzel powering away to the victory and Watabe edging Fletcher for second on the podium.

Frenzel will hope his form will continue through to the World Championships, due to be held in Falun, Sweden from February 18 until March 1.
