As well as these two events, the car manufacturer will sponsor other International Skiing Federation (FIS) competitions, including the cross-country World Cup, the men's ski jumping World Cup and the ski-flying World Championships in 2016 and 2018.

The new partnerships mark the logical continuation of the winter sports activities in which Audi has so far been involved and their close collaboration with FIS as well as with 16 National Ski Associations.

The company has a particularly long association with Nordic skiing and was one of the principal sponsors of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 and 2005.

This support has also included television commercials as well as regular invitations for top skiers to visit the Audi facility in Ingolstadt to hone their body position aerodynamics and optimise their kit and equipment using a wind tunnel.

"We're delighted about intensifying the collaboration with FIS within the scope of our new partnerships," says Giovanni Perosino, head of marketing communications of AUDI AG.

"In Alpine, Nordic and Freestyle is the entire diversity of disciplines in which Audi symbolically stands for."

FIS President Gian Franco Kasper described Audi as a "valuable partner of FIS and has become a fixture in international winter sports".

"We're pleased that our excellent cooperation is now being extended even further," he said.

"It's good news for all athletes and fans."
