Sir John Ritblat head and shouldersJune 17 - Property specialist Sir John Ritblat has agreed to become President of British Ski and Snowboard (BSS), continuing his long association with British winter sports.

BSS is the new governing body for skiing and snowboarding in the UK.

It was set up, under the aegis of the British Olympic Association (BOA), following the financial collapse of the British Ski and Snowboard Federation.

Sir John, who has been involved with the sponsorship of Alpine sport for 35 years, is chairman of the advisory board of Delancey, a specialist property investment company.

Delancey last year formed a partnership with Qatari Diar to purchase and, as the company puts it, "lead the legacy" of the London 2012 Athletes' Village.

This is being turned into a residential neighbourhood known as East Village, with more than 2,800 homes ready for residents to move into from late summer.

Dave Edwards, the BSS chief executive, said that elite British skiers had been "fortunate for many years to receive the invaluable support that Sir John has provided".

BSS was "very grateful that he continues to devote his time and efforts to enable the best British competitors to achieve their full potential".

Sir John said he was "most honoured" to continue his long association with British skiing and was "delighted with the success of the British Ski and Snowboard reconstitution".
