The 24-year-old, who was crowned European champion in Dordrecht, The Netherlands last month, ensured she sealed second place in the overall World Cup rankings, as she finished in a time of one min and 31.513 seconds to take gold today.

Canada's Kassandra Bradette claimed the silver medal, while current overall World Cup leader in the 1,000m, Shim Suk-hee of South Korea, stretched her advantage at the top of the standings as she came third in Turkey.

The result caps off a good run of form for Christie, and her recent performances should provide her with confidence ahead of the upcoming World Short Track Speed Skating Championships, which begin in Moscow on March 13.

In the men's 1,000m race, Russia's Semion Elistratov continued his dominance of the event as he secured his second straight victory.

He led from start to end to win in a photo finish in 1:24.001, despite a powerful display in the latter stages of the race seeing Sjinkie Knegt of The Netherlands mount a serious challenge.

South Korean Sin Da-woon was third, which leaves him in pole position to clinch the overall World Cup crown with one event remaining.

Like Elistratov, Italy's Arianna Fontana also won her second consecutive race, in the 1,500m event as she finished ahead of Canadian duo Marianne St-Gelais and Kim Boutin.

Fontana raced around the track in a time of 2:28.590, while St-Gelais was just 0.343 seconds off the pace, and Boutin came through to seal a good outing for the Canadian team.

The headlines, however, belonged to South Korean Choi Min-jeong, who earned enough points to clinch the overall title despite languishing in seventh place.

In the men's race, China's Han Tianyu edged compatriot Chen Dequan to claim the 1,500m honours, while Viktor Ahn built on Elistratov's Russian triumph earlier in the day as he took third to round off the podium.
