The six figure skaters chosen to represent Team GB at Sochi next month have been named in the squad set to compete at the European Championships in Hungary ©NISAJanuary 3 - The six figure skaters travelling to Sochi 2014 next month as part of Team GB have all been included in the squad set to compete in the European Figure Skating Championships taking place in Budapest from January 13 until 19.


Pairs competitors Stacey Kemp and David King, Ice Dancers Nick Buckland and Penny Coomes, Ladies athlete Jenna McCorkell and Men's singles representative Matthew Parr will all travel to the Championships hoping to fine tune their skills before the Sochi Winter Games the following month.

The Sochi 2014 skaters will also be joined by newly crowned British Pairs champions Amani Fancy and Christopher Boyadji, who beat Kemp and King in this year's British Championships, as well as Ice Dance duo Carter Jones and Richard Sharpe, who finished runner up to Coomes and Buckland at the Championships in November.

"Weare delighted to name such a strong squad for the European Championships combining youth and experience," said Hilary Selby, performance director for the National Ice Skating Association (NISA).

"Taking place just a month before the Winter Olympics, the event will form a key part of training preparations for our Sochi skaters.

"The selections are based on the formula of the highest international score achieved in an ISU recognised international competition during the 2013-2014 season, plus two times the British Championship score.

"We would like to wish all the selected skaters the very best for a successful performance at this Championships and for their continued skating career."

The European Championships will be one of the last opportunities the British skaters have to compete in a major competition before they travel to Sochi for the Winter Olympics.

Great British figure skaters have not won a medal at a Winter Olympics since famous Ice Dancers Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean took bronze at the 1994 Lillehammer Games, with no gold won since the duo claimed the top spot at the 1984 Sarajevo Games.
