The Russian and Finnish sides maintained their undefeated records with victories in both of the day's sessions

After an even start at one apiece, Russia took the early advantage when they scored two points in the third end of their fixture against reigning European champions Sweden.

Russia piled on the pressure again in the eighth end, scoring three points to make the score 9-3 and force Sweden to concede defeat.

This was the Russian's second win of the day following a routine 9-1 win over Denmark in just six ends.

"Three wins is great but it's not the end, it's just the beginning, so we have to work hard if we want to place in the top four," said Russian skip Anna Sidorova.

"That's our goal."

In their game against Latvia, Finland blanked the first two ends before taking a clear lead in the third with four points.

This was a lead Finland would not lose as they eventually ran Latvia out of stones in the tenth end to win by 10-6.

Their opening game against the Czech Republic ended much the same as this later game with a four point fourth end putting Finland on course for a 9-6 win.

On the men's side, Sweden impressed in both the early and late sessions to take four victories from the first two days of competition.

A 7-5 scoreline over Latvia was more comfortable than it eventually seemed with three points in the second and fourth ends setting them en route to a third win of the tournament.

The fourth win came in the evening session as the Swede's recorded a dominant 7-2 win against Denmark.

The other women's fixtures saw Eve Muirhead's Scotland recover from their first day defeat to record a 9-4 victory over the Czech Republic and 10-5 win against Latvia, while world champions Switzerland also turned their tournament around with a late victory over Germany and 8-3 thrashing of Sweden.

Denmark pulled back from their massive loss to Russia to beat Estonia by seven points to four, while Germany picked up their first win of the Championships as they beat Estonia 10-4 after eight ends.

Reigning men's world champions had another rocky day with a 6-4 win over Denmark tarred by a 9-5 defeat at the hands of Italy.

Scotland's good work from the opening day of play was undone as they fell to Switzerland and Lativa, with the Swiss following up their win over the Scots with another against the Czech Republic to keep the pressure on Sweden atop the leaderboard.
