World Curling Federations WCF Olympic Celebration TourMay 23 - The World Curling Federation's (WCF) Olympic Celebration Tour has received a $50,000 (£33,000/€39,000) funding boost from the Foundation for Global Sports Development to support the programme in its first year.

The global initiative, which is being used to promote the sport before, during and after the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, will see curling Olympians running instructional sessions across the world during the next two seasons and WCF President Kate Caithness said the donation will help enhance the reach of the scheme.

"We cannot thank the Foundation for Global Sports Development enough – their support will ensure that this programme benefits hundreds of people around the world who are either already involved in curling or looking to get involved in our sport," Caithness said.

"The Olympic Celebration Tour is an integral part of the WCF's development plans over the coming months as the world's focus turns to the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and we hope that this programme gives people the opportunity to try our sport, and for those already curling, the inspiration to develop further."

Foundation for Global Sports Development Executive Board member Dr Steven Ungerleider added: "With the Olympic Celebration Tour, the WCF is sharing more than just technique and skills with new curlers.

"The WCF is spreading its ideals of tradition, honourable conduct and good sportsmanship and we are delighted to support such a valuable organisation."
