Yun Won Chol has become North Koreas first Greco-Roman world championSeptember 20 - North Korea's Yun Won Chol won his nation's first ever Greco-Roman world title at the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA) World Championships in Budapest, defeating South Korean rival Choi Gyu-Jin in the men's 55 kilogram final.

The historic gold came thanks to a pair of bodylock takedowns in the first period as Asian bronze medallist Yun won his nation's first medal in Greco-Roman for eight years, since his compatriot Kim Kum Chol claimed bronze, also in the Hungarian capital.

Along with the Greco-Roman, the day also saw the conclusion of the women's freestyle, where Japan claimed the team title and champions were crowned in the 67kg and 72kg categories.

Russia's Olympic champion Natalia Vorobieva was condemned to silver in the 72kg final by China's Zhang Fengliu, whilst Ukrainian Alina Stadnik-Makhynia took the gold in the 67kg division, defeating Pan American champion Stacie Anaka of Canada.

Mongolia's Asian champion Nasanburmaa Ochirbat took bronze in the 67kg, stepping over a takedown attempt by Chinese rival Zhou Zhangting.

Former world champion Adelina Gray of the United States won bronze in the 72kg, scoring three takedowns and back exposure for an 8-2 win over Mediterranean Games champion Yasemin Adar of Turkey.

Three golds and Sara Dosho's bronze medal secured the team title for Japan, denying Mongolia of the first women's team title by just one point.

Mongolia accumulated 47 points with a pair of silver and bronze medals each while the US were awarded the third-place trophy with 37 points.

Tomorrow will feature the elimination rounds and finals in the Greco-Roman 60kg, 84kg, 96kg divisions.
