March 13 - Tunis has replaced Yaoundé as host of the African Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships next month ©AFP/Getty ImagesTunis will be the new venue for this year's African Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships after it was changed from original host city Yaoundé following "technical problems", the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has announced.

Both Championships, which act as a qualification event for the Nanjing 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games, will now be staged in the Tunisian capital following a decision by the Executive Board of the Weightlifting Federation of Africa (WFA).

The WFA were informed by the Cameroon Weightlifting Federation (CWF) that due to some "internal problems", Yaoundé was unable to meet its obligation to host the events, scheduled to run from April 15 to 22.

"The WFA and CWF informed to us that the Championships could not be staged in Yaoundé," an IWF spokeswoman told insidethegames.

"There were some internal and technical problems regarding Yaoundé's ability to stage the Championships so a decision was taken to move them to Tunis.

"The decision was confirmed by the IWF."

While the host city has changed, the date for the Championships remains the same.

The IWF also said the competition schedule for the Championships will be finalised by early next week.

Tunis hosted the eighth edition of the Mediterranean Weightlifting Cup, which saw 14 countries taking part, from February 28 to March 2 .

A total of 110 athletes will compete across six men's and five women's weightlifting categories at Nanjing 2014, which is scheduled to run from August 16 to 28.

At last year's Youth World Championships, 44 athletes secured their place at the Games while 39 will claim a place at five continental qualifying events in Europe, Asia, Pan America, Oceania and the African event in Tunis.

A further 20 places will be allocated using the Tripartite Commission, while hosts China have been given four automatic spots.
