Brazil in action against Turkey ©Getty ImagesThe second round of the International Volleyball Federation Women's World Championship is taking shape with 11 of the 16 teams confirmed going into the final day of Pool matches in Italy. 

Two places are still up for grabs in Pool B and Pool D, while the last remaining spot in Pool C is yet to be settled.

Turkey suffered a second consecutive defeat in Pool B, losing 3-2 to Brazil after holding a two-set lead, and trail third-placed Bulgaria, who won 25-16, 25-20, 25-23 against Cameroon, in the standings. 

Tomorrow, the Bulgarians meet Canada, who can also still qualify despite losing 3-1 to Serbia, while Turkey face Cameroon as they look to secure their passage to the next round.

Meanwhile in Pool C, Kazakhstan claimed a straight sets victory against Mexico and will battle it out with Thailand, who suffered a 3-0 defeat to the United States, for qualification tomorrow.

In the Pool's other encounter, Russia beat The Netherlands 19-25, 25-13, 27-25, 25-16 to move onto 12 points with the US.

In Pool D, Puerto Rico were beaten in straight sets by Japan and must beat Belgium, 25-21, 25-12, 25-21 winners against Azerbaijan, to stand a chance of advancing to the next stage.

Azerbaijan can also still qualify and face Cuba, who lost 3-0 to China, tomorrow.

In Pool A, the Dominican Republic booked their place in the second round after defeating Argentina 3-1 and they will be joined by Croatia, who beat Tunisia 25-6, 21-25, 25-16, 25-13.

Germany lost 3-1 to undefeated hosts Italy but both teams will feature in the second round.
