Alistair_Brownlee_v_Javier_Gomez_Madrid_2010June 1 - Spain's Javier Gomez and Britain's Alistair Brownlee will go toe to toe in the second round of the 2011 Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series in Madrid this weekend.

Gomez, who leads the series as he defends the world title he won last year, will be aiming for his first win in Spain against Brownlee, who has won the last two Madrid titles, in the race on Saturday (June 4).

Australia's Courtney Atkinson will also provide stiff competition after taking silver in Madrid in the last two years.

In the women's field, Canadian Paula Findlay will be looking to make it four out of five series wins, but will face tough competition from Chile's Barbara Riveros-Diaz and New Zealand's Andrea Hewitt, who she held off to clinch the season opener in Sydney.

America's Laura Bennett and Britain's Helen Jenkins will also be among the leading contenders in the women's race, whilst last year's Madrid champion Nicola Spring, of Switzerland, misses out on defending her crown.

The Madrid course is one of the most impressive in the series, taking in many of the city's most attractive sites as well as the Casa de Campo park.
