Gwen Jorgensen has secured her 10th World Triathlon Series win ©World Triathlon/TwitterGwen Jorgensen has secured her 10th World Triathlon Series win with victory in Auckland today, while Britain's Jonathon Brownlee topped the podium in the men's race.

American world champion Jorgensen finished in a time of 2 hours 09min 04sec to cement her place at the top of the overall leader board.

Her compatriot Katie Zaferes followed in second place for the silver medal with a time of 2:10:42, while home athlete Andrea Hewitt claimed bronze in 2:10:58.

"I really wanted to be with the leaders in T2 so I am really happy that I was able to do that," Jorgensen said.

"I was able to execute with my run today but my main goal is to keep with front pack during the bike."

Meanwhile, Brownlee managed to beat Javier Gómez Noya, after suffering three recent defeats at the hands of the Spanish world champion, in a time of 1:55:26.

Gómez had to settle for second place with 1:55:41, while a career best performance from France's Pierre Le Corre saw him secure his first World Triathlon Series podium finish with third place in 1:55:52.

"It was great to win today, first World Series event that I have won in a while," Brownlee said.

"In Abu Dhabi I made a lot of mistakes and I have been beating myself up about it over the last three weeks and training hard because I did not want to do it again.

"I felt good, I really enjoyed it today and I am pleased to win."

Despite this being the first time in the four appearances in Auckland that Gómez has not placed first, he seemed pleased with his second place finish after suffering a sixth place finish in Abu Dhabi earlier this month.

"Jonathan was just really strong today," he said.

"I have been through a pretty tough time lately, I got sick right before Abu Dhabi and between that race and today I was taking a strain too so I am really happy with second place.

"Obviously I would have loved to win but I performed the best I could."
