The 2015 Cross Triathlon World Championships will be held in Sardinia, Italy ©Simon PechSardinia in Italy will host the 2015 Cross Triathlon World Championships, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) announced today.

The exact dates of the event are yet to be revealed, however, it was confirmed that the event will be held in the town of Orosei.

It will be the first time the Championships have been held in Sardinia with the event set to be coordinated in association with TNatura.

"Sardinia offers up both spectacular views and a challenging course for the Cross Triathlon World Championships," said Marisol Casado, President of the ITU. 

"The multisport discipline of cross triathlon has grown immensely in the last few years.

"We look forward to continuing to develop this exciting format."

Sardinia is no stranger to Cross Triathlon Championships with Orosei having hosted the European Cross Triathlon Championships earlier this year.

Germany's Katrin Muller launched her cross triathlon season with a win at these European Championships before going on to take victory at the 2014 Cross Triathlon World Championships in Zittau, Germany.
