USA Triathlon and TYR Sport have renewed their gold-level partnership ©USA TriathlonUSA Triathlon has announced that it has renewed its gold-level partnership with TYR Sport which will see both organisations continue to work together through until 2016.

Swimwear firm TYR Sport will remain as USA Triathlon's official supplier and will provide suits for the top age-group athletes who annually qualify to represent the United States at each International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Championship event.

TYR Sport will supply swimwear; triathlon competition and training apparel; swim training accessories and goggles, while wetsuits and swimskins have now been added as a new exclusive category.

"As an innovative industry leader, TYR has contributed significantly to USA Triathlon's success since we originally aligned in 2009," said Chuck Menke, USA Triathlon chief marketing officer.

"From age-groupers to elites, TYR's state-of-the art product line enables US triathletes to train and compete at the highest level possible.

"I look forward to expanding our partnership even further in the years ahead."

TYR Sport, based in Huntingdon Beach, California, has also pledged to support the USA Triathlon national team programme through offering performance bonuses to American athletes who finish on the podium at future ITU World Triathlon Series events, as well as the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

In addition, the firm will remain a partner in staging National Championships in the US at age-group, collegiate, duathlon and youth and junior events.

"We are thrilled that we are not only continuing our partnership with USA Triathlon, but we are expanding it," said Matt Di Lorenzo, chief executive at TYR.

"During the last five years of [the] partnership, USA Triathlon has proven to be a phenomenal platform to demonstrate our passion for the sport and to reach triathletes of all ages and levels.

"We look forward to continued collaboration and success as we move toward the world stage for Rio 2016."

Since the formation of the ITU in 1989, the US has seen Mark Allen crowned the inaugural men's world champion, while in the women's category Karen Smyers has two world titles in 1990 and 1995, followed by Siri Lindley in 2001 and Sheila Taormina in 2004.

Meanwhile, Susan Williams is the sole American to have claimed an Olympic medal, winning bronze at Athens 2004.
