Chris Jones Athletics IrelandMay 7 - Triathlon Ireland's high performance director Chris Jones is leaving to take up a new role as national endurance coach with Athletics Ireland.


Jones had been head of Triathlon Ireland since 2009, having previously been head coach of the British women's team.  

Under Jones, Ireland qualified two competitors, Aileen Reid and Gavin Noble, for last year's Olympics in London.

Reid also achieved Ireland's first ever International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Series podium at Hamburg in 2010 and Con Doherty won a bronze medal in the World Junior Championships in Auckland last year.

"I've really enjoyed my time in Triathlon Ireland and have to thank the board, CEO, staff and athletes for the support they have given me," said Jone.

"The future of triathlon is in good hands with a solid coaching structure and experienced and capable staff in place.

"There are a number of talented athletes progressing through the ranks so I would expect a strong showing during the next Olympic cycle."

Jones is due to take up his new role with Athletics Ireland on May 21.

"We had a wide pool of outstanding applicants for the position and we are delighted to announce that Chris Jones has been contracted to take up the position," said Athletics Ireland high performance director Kevin Ankrom.

"Chris will be an outstanding asset for our high performance programme and to the sport of athletics."
