China's Australian Open champion looked out of sorts during the encounter, crashing out in straight sets to add yet more misery to what has been a torrid month for the world number two.

Li had crashed out at the first round of the French Open just four weeks ago and has not been on the court since, after missing the Wimbledon warm-up in Eastbourne.

She paid the price for her competitive absence as Czech world number 43 Zahlavova-Strycova progressed to her first Wimbledon fourth round.

"I told myself before the match, I mean, this is Wimbledon, Court Number One, I shouldn't be grumpy," said Zahlavova-Strycova, who admitted her anger can get the better of her at times.

"This is why I do this sport.

"This is why I play, to play these matches.

"I think I did great today with mental.

"It wasn't easy actually."

The Czech will now face Danish 16th seed Caroline Wozniacki after the former world number one surged past Croatia's Ana Konjuh 6-3, 6-0 in just 70 minutes.

Romania's third seed Simona Halep, runner up at this year's French Open, battled through her second round encounter with Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko to win 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to book a spot in the next round.

On the men's side, top seed Novak Djokovic cruised through his third round match with a 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Gilles Simon.

The world number two suffered an injury scare midway through the third set when he landed awkwardly on his left shoulder, but was otherwise largely untroubled by the unseeded Frenchman.

The Serbian will now face another French player in the fourth round, this time in the shape of 14th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, after he beat Jimmy Wang 6-2, 6-2, 7-5.

Great Britain's defending champion Andy Murray had the crowd on their feet after racing to a 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 victory against Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut.

The pair had to wait until early evening to get their match underway, however, the late hour had no affect on the Briton as he cruised to victory in one hour and 36 minutes.

Murray is yet to drop a set as he heads into the second week of the tournament and will now face South African giant Kevin Anderson in the fourth round.

Speaking of this match Murray said: "Kevin's going to be a tough opponent.

"Like Roberto, he is playing the best tennis of his career at the moment, he's made some improvements in the past year.

"He's a big guy with a big game and I'm going to have to return well if I'm going to win that one."
