Rosol had a set point for a two-set lead, but Nadal recovered to book his place in the third round for the first time since 2011.

"I was just trying to fight," Nadal, will now face Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin at the All England Club, said.

"I was waiting for my moment, trying to find my moment.

"He was serving very well - that always happens on the grass.

"That second set was very important for me.

"To be two sets down against a player like Rosol is very dangerous."

Switzerland's seven-time champion Roger Federer also made it to Wimbledon's third round after he overcame Gilles Müller of Luxembourg with a 6-3 7-5 6-3 victory, as did his compatriot and Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka, who defeated Lu Yen-hsun of Taiwan 7-6, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

"I want to go further," said Wawrinka, who will now play Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin.

"It's important that I'm playing well.

"I'm confident with my game.

"I will have a tricky match against Istomin.

"He's a really tough player on the grass courts."

Meanwhile in the women's competition, 2004 champion Maria Sharapova of Russia beat Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky 6-2, 6-1 in 60 minutes.

"I wanted to step it up after feeling nervous in my first round match," Sharapova said.

"The butterflies are always there.

"But I want to feel motivated to win this Championship again."
