The newly formed British Para-Taekwondo Sub Committee has prepared detailed plans and budgets for 2015, and provisionally outlined a strategy for 2020 following last month's announcement that it will feature at Tokyo 2020. 

A number of targets have been set by British Taekwondo to try to ensure they are ready to take advantage of the new opportunity. 

These include the creation of a new Para-taekwondo page on its website, the development of a simple funding plan for County Sports Partnerships (CSPs) to help fund local courses for youngsters with disabilities keen to get involved and the commencement of the integration process with the elite squads for Kyorugi (full-contact sparring) and Poomsae (martial art forms).

British Para-Taekwondo also confirmed its intention to conduct a national survey of its clubs and members; incorporate new categories in its National Kyorugi and Poomsae Championships; run a UK-based coaching course; help identify and train British Para-athlete classifiers; and show commitment to search out other disabled sport funding opportunities.

The organisation is hoping to secure participation at the European Para-Taekwondo Union Championships, scheduled to take place in Moldova in April, and the International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) World Games, due to be held in Sochi in October.

Amy Truesdale will be looking to defend her K44 over 58 kilogram title in the former, having stormed to gold in Turkish city Belek in November.

On August 9, British Para-Taekwondo is set to play host to the Poomsae event at the Cerebral Palsy International Sports & Recreation Association (CPISRA) World Games in Nottingham.

The British Para-Taekwondo Sub Committee is scheduled to meet again at the National Poomsae Championships, which are due to be held at the K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley, West Sussex from February 28 to March 1.
