May 18 - North Korean pair Kim Hyok Bong and Kim Jong pulled off a historic victory in the final of the mixed doubles at the World Table Tennis Championships in Paris to secure their country's first ever title in the event - made even more significant by the fact their opponents were from South Korea.

May 15 - The opening day of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Championships in Paris saw a miserable day for Japan as Olympic silver medallist Ai Fukuhara crashed at the first hurdle against qualifier Park Seong-Hye and world number 10 Jun Mizutani followed, losing to Pavel Siruchek.
