Kaulich was involved in a duel with Frenchman Alexis Raynaud that went right to the wire.

The German drew level with Raynaud who held a 0.1 point lead going into the final shot, but Kaulich showed nerves of steel to send the final into a shoot-off.

Raynaud registered a score of 10.3 with his effort, but the 20-year-old Frenchman shot back with a 10.7 to claim the world title.

Marcin Majika of Poland won the bronze medal.

Junior European champions Andre Link of Germany and Austrian Gernot Rumpler had to make do with fourth and sixth respectively.

The efforts of Kaulich, Link and Mario Nittel saw Germany claim the team title with a world record score of 1856.6 points, with France taking silver ahead of Russia.
