Gault will be 60-years-old when he takes to the range at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre this summer and will be looking to fire his way into the record books by overhauling Australian shooter Phillip Adams' haul of 18 medals.

Gault currently has 17 Commonwealth Games medals, making him the most decorated English athlete in the Games' history, and his dream of overhauling the Australian appeared to be over when he announced his retirement after Delhi 2010.

He secured a silver and bronze in Delhi to add to the nine gold, three silver and three bronze he had accumulated over five Games since his debut at Victoria 1994.

Following his exploits in Delhi, Gault announced his retirement from the sport in October 2010 but soon changed his mind and was back competing on the range the following summer.

"I am delighted to be representing England at the Commonwealth Games for the sixth time and I can't wait to get out there and compete for my country," said Gault.

"I know there will be talk of records as there was in Delhi, but that's not why I'm here.

"I'm here because I love shooting and I love the Commonwealth Games and the opportunity to compete at the very highest level in the UK was too good to miss.

"This is about going out in front of big home crowds and enjoying my sport.

"I'm definitely the old boy of the team but training has been going very well and I hope I'll keep the youngsters on their toes."

Gault is one 14 athletes named to the Team England squad and is set to compete in the small-bore pistol competition alongside Geri Buckley, Kristian Callaghan, Victoria Mullin and Stuart Nangle.

Sheree Cox, Lina Jones, Sharon Lee, Kenny Parr, Hannah Pugsley, Dan Rivers and Larissa Sykes will compete in the small-bore pistol event while David Luckman and Pareg Patel take part in the full bore competition.

Patel is the defending open singles champion from Delhi 2010.

"I am delighted to have selected such a talented squad to represent Team England in Glasgow," said shooting team leader Martyn White.

"Shooting has a proud tradition in the Commonwealth Games and I look forward to these athletes continuing that in Glasgow."

Team England will name further athletes for the shooting squad at a later date.

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games run from July 23 to August 3.
