August 26 - Antonio González de la Madrid has been named as the International Sailing Federation's (ISAF) new World Cup manager after being promoted from his role as competition manager.
González de la Madrid (pictured above) is an ISAF international race officer with much experience of running major international events.
In particular, the Spaniard has previously been responsible for race officials, as well as acting as the ISAF technical delegate for the Youth Sailing World Championship, the women's Match Racing World Championship and the Team Racing World Championship.
"There was a great deal of interest in the ISAF Sailing World Cup manager role and ISAF went through an extensive interview process before finalising its choice," Alastair Fox, ISAF's head of competitions, said.
"To shortlist the candidates has been hard, but it was even harder at the very end due to the great presentations that some candidates made during the final interview.
"Antonio was an invaluable member of the ISAF international technical official team at the London 2012 Olympic Games and I am sure that he is the right person to help develop the ISAF Sailing World Cup and to help promote Olympic sailing around the world."
The ISAF Sailing World Cup takes places in Melbourne in December this year, before heading to Europe and a yet to be confirmed North American event.
In October 2013 a new Asian event will be introduced in Qingdao, with ISAF also seeking to expand the event to Africa and the Middle East where it is still in negotiations with a bidder.
