Charline Picon Brest July 2013July 7 - Britain's Byrony Shaw won the Open championship and secured a silver medal in the overall European Championship standings at the European RS:X Windsurfing Championships in Brest.

The British windsurfer lost out on overall European Championship gold to France's Charline Picon, but added European silver to the World Championship silver she won in Brazil back in March with her sixth podium finish of the year.

"I'm really happy to have won the silver medal here and to keep the momentum going," said the 30-year-old, who won an Olympic bronze medal at London 2012.

"It was slightly disappointing to miss out to Charline on the last day, but it was really close on points, and she's been sailing really well all week.

"We were literally racing hip to hip right down to the last downwind of the last medal race where she just got away.

"We've had spot on conditions, which have played to her strengths a little bit, but for me all the stuff we've been working on this week has been going really well.

"We've had a lot of up and down days - some down to the venue with shifty, gusty, offshore conditions, and some down to little mistakes I've made, but overall it's been a really good series."
