The new kit retains the classic colour combination of white shirts, white shorts and midnight blue socks, and manufacturers Canterbury say that it contains the heritage and traditions of England Rugby dating back to 1871, with a modern design aesthetic.

Canterbury has introduced midnight blue detailing at the cuffs, with the iconic England rose on the chest completing a patriotic red, white and blue colour combination synonymous with England Rugby, and the new kit will get its first outing during the upcoming QBE International series next month which sees England take on Australia, Argentina and reigning Rugby World Cup champions New Zealand at Twickenham, before next year's Six Nations Championship.

"Putting on an England shirt is a huge source of pride for the players and the white shirt is a critical part of England's identity as well as our history and heritage," said England head coach Stuart Lancaster.

"We want everyone to feel part of this England side, to feel a sense of connection and pride in the team and to inspire more people to play and watch rugby."

The Test edition of the shirt is produced using Canterbury's high performance fabric which aims delivers optimum strength and moisture management, for a lightweight and comfortable feel, while other features include the Canterbury signature loop 21 neckline and triple-bar tacks that are configured to increase the strength of the shirt at the usual vulnerable areas, and a ball-deadening grip area that is arranged on the shirt as a series of tone-on-tone hooped stripes.

Marland Yarde is one of the players in Lancaster's squad who will be hoping to get the chance to don the new kit when England take on the world's best in November and he can't wait for the challenge.

"When you put on an England shirt before a match, you always think about the players that have been there before you and the people who have helped you get where you are," said the London Irish winger.

"You want to continue the tradition and perform at your best.

"I can't wait to get the chance to wear it in front of a packed home crowd at Twickenham in a few weeks."

Lancaster and Yarde, who were joined at the event by England centre Brad Barritt and England women's player Sarah Hunter, were speaking at Bruntcliffe School which was chosen for the kit launch thanks to its participation in the Rugby Football Union's (RFU) All Schools programme which aims to get 750 state schools playing rugby in the run up to the 2015 Rugby World Cup and beyond.

The launch of the new kit also coincides with continuation of Canterbury's "England is All" campaign which honours the unsung heroes of the game, such as coaches and volunteers, who contribute to the entire rugby family from grassroots to elite level.

"Canterbury is passionate about the sport of rugby, and the launch of the new kit today at Bruntcliffe School reflects our joint commitment, along with the RFU, to supporting the game from grassroots to elite level," said Canterbury's chief executive, Chris Stephenson.

"It further emphasises the 'England Is All' message.

"The new shirt continues to honour the proud traditions of England rugby while featuring a new and contemporary design, and is of course engineered to meet the rigours of the game at the elite level.

"We're sure that players and fans alike will be proud to wear it."

For fans, the shirt is also available in a Pro version, styled in the same way as the Test edition with a looser fit, while a Classic edition will allow fans to get the look of the new shirt in a more traditional collared rugby style.
