July 7 - Riccardo De Luca laid down a strong Olympic marker in the last big modern pentathlon event before the London Games get underway as he made up a 10 seconds deficit in the final run/shoot to outpace two Hungarian rivals and earn the European title in the steamy heat of Sofia, Bulgaria.

June 8 - Four of Britain's top modern pentathlon stars have booked their spots at the London 2012 Olympics after the British Olympic Association (BOA) announced here that Mhairi Spence, Samantha Murray, Nick Woodbridge and Sam Weale have all been officially selected to represent Team GB at the Games.

May 12 - Mhairi Spence (pictured), who missed out on selection for the Beijing 2008 Olympics, booked her place at London 2012 with an extraordinary victory in the World Modern Pentathlon Championships in Rome, and her team-mate Samantha Murray, who has rocketed up the world rankings this year, laid claim to the second individual place open to Britain's women by taking bronze.
