In front of their home fans in Glasgow, Scotland won 13 medals, six of them gold.

The team will be looking to extend their medal haul in the same city at the European Championships in April next year, and The Scottish Salmon Company is now supporting their progress.

The link between the two came from Scottish judo legend George Kerr, a gold medallist at the 1957 European Championships and who enjoyed a career spanning four decades as a competitor, referee, coach and administrator.

He was one of the inaugural inductees into the Scottish Sport Hall of Fame in 2002.

Last year Kerr was also selected to enter the International Judo Hall of Fame.

Kerr had previously worked in partnership with The Scottish Salmon Company to deliver a programme introducing young people to the sport in the Outer Hebrides, and to encourage healthy eating.

With this new deal, the business is now the headline sponsor of the nation's finest judo athletes.

JudoScotland's chief executive Douglas Bryce said: "The sport is currently enjoying huge limelight following the Games and our partnership with The Scottish Salmon Company will enable us to continue this momentum over the next year, as we now enter the countdown to the European Championships."

The European Championships are due to take place from April 9 to 12 in Glasgow.

It will be the first time for 20 years that the European Judo Union has staged its flagship competition in Great Britain.
