April 17 - LEquipe 21 has been announced as host broadcaster for the European Judo Championships ©AFP/Getty ImagesFrench digital terrestrial television channel L'Equipe 21 has secured the host broadcast rights for the upcoming European Judo Championships in Montpellier, which are due to take place next week.

The deal will see L'Equipe 21 provide live coverage from each day of the event which is scheduled to take place from April 24 to 27 and also produce highlights packages.

Hosts the French Judo Federation struck the deal on behalf of the European Judo Union (EJU) and will see exclusive coverage provided in France and overseas French territories and departments.

L'Equipe's coverage will also be available on a non-exclusive basis in Vanuatu, Tonga, Australia, New Zealand, Trinidad, Venezuela, Fiji Islands, Mauritius, Madagascar, Comoros, Seychelles, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Monaco, and Andorra.

A spokesperson from the EJU told insidethegames that further sales of TV rights are still being discussed adding "the EJU is confident that together with the support of the French Judo Federation and L'Equipe 21, the European Championships 2014 will be broadcast by more than 20 countries worldwide".

The Park & Suites Arena in Montpellier will host the top men's and women's judoka from across the continent with Georgia the defending men's team champions and the Netherlands emerging as the top women's team at last year's Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
