The squads will now have the chance to travel to the Chinese city to compete in the Games, which take place on August 16 to 28, after securing the two available berths in each gender category at the African qualifying tournament in Zambia's capital, Lusaka.

South Africa won both the girls' and boys' competitions, defeating the hosts 5-3 and 3-1 in the respective finals.

However, it was the Zambian girl's team that posted the highest score of the tournament when they defeated Kenya 17-0.

Namibia finished third in the girl's tournament and Kenya occupied the third spot in the boy's competition, but with five teams - the other being Zimbabwe - going for only two spots, they did not make it to the Youth Olympic Games this time.
