The two-day event will be played at the 12,500-capacity venue, which also staged the final weekend of the Women's EHF European Championship in 2004 and will again host the event in December 2014, after the Hungarian capital overcame competition from rival bid city Ljubljana in Slovenia.

"The Budapest bid was very impressive and we are convinced that this event will be a great success in its first year," Jean Brihault, EHF President, said.

"Handball has a huge following in Hungary and we know that this first event will attract fans from across Europe.

"We're looking forward to a fantastic atmosphere in Budapest in May."

Eight teams will now vie for the four slots at the EHF Final4 by competing at the Women's EHF Champions League Main Round, which will take place between February 1 and March 16.

The defending champions Győri Audi ETO KC are in Group Two with three former winners - Slovenia's RK Krim Mercator Ljubljana, Montenegro's Budućnost Podgorica and Norway's Larvik, while Denmark's FC Midtjylland, Macedonian WHC Vardar SCBT Skopje, Sweden's IK Sävehof and German Thüringer HC are in Group One.

The two best teams from each group will qualify for the EHF Final4 semi-finals, which are due to be played on May 3, followed by the third place match and the final on May 4.

Tickets for the event at the László Papp Sports Arena will be available from December.
