Whitlock will be one of the top contenders for a medal at the continental tournament in the Bulgarian capital after claiming floor gold, all around silver and pommel horse bronze in Moscow last year, as will Beijing 2008 Olympian Daniel Keatings, who will be looking to make it a historic hat trick of European pommel horse titles.

Sam Oldham, Dan Purvis and Kristian Thomas, who formed part of the British bronze medal winning team at London 2012, will also compete as part of the senior team at the competition and will look to defend the British men's team title from 2012 - the last time the European Championships included a senior team competition.

They will be joined by five junior gymnasts, namely 2013 European Youth Olympic Festival champion Brinn Bevan, 2014 British junior champion Nile Wilson, this year's national all around bronze medallist Jay Thompson, Giarnni-Regini Moran and Joe Fraser.

The British women's team, which was announced last month, includes the likes of Olympians Hannah Whelan, Rebecca Tunney and Rebecca Downie.

The Artistic Gymnastics European Championships will take place on May 12-25.
