The 61-year-old (pictured top) will lead Slovakia in the sport through the next Olympic cycle to Rio 2016 where the nation will be hoping to improve on its performance at London 2012, where its two representatives in artistic gymnastics - Samuel Piasecký and Mária Homolová - competed in the qualifying rounds but did not advance to the finals.

The SGF is aiming again to have two athletes representing the country at the next Games, with the goal being that at least one should make the finals.

A statement said the national governing body is putting particular focus on the development of men's gymnastics.

Novák, an International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Council Member, will also be charged with ensuring the financial stability of the SGF in partnership with the Slovakian Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport, while supporting the establishment of new clubs and boosting participation.

"My goal is the allocation of new tools," he said.

"[I will also] implement the national campaign 'Be FIT with gymnastics' and organise and arrange UEG (European Union of Gymnastics) Congress 2015 in Bratislava."

As well as the Presidential election, Martin Zvalo and Stanislav Kútik were named as Presidents of the men's and women's artistic departments respectively; Oľga Kyselovičová was selected as the aerobic President; Monika Šišková as the gymnastics for all head; Jozef Dučák as the technical committee chairman; and Juraj Kremnický as youth and development chair.

Ivan Gallo and Ingrid Papánková were also elected to the SGF control commission.
