Tunisia got the scoring underway first with a goal from Ahmed Akaïchi after 31 minutes of play, before the Democratic Republic of Congo equalised when Jeremy Bokila side-footed in at 66 minutes.

Tunisia had a number of chances for a win, with Wahbi Khazri smashing over the goal, and had two goals ruled out for offside - one either side of half-time.

The draw in the city of Bata means Tunisia win Group B and the Democratic Republic of Congo come second, with the squads now facing tournament hosts Equatorial Guinea and Congo respectively on Saturday (January 31).

There was no such luck for Cape Verde and Zambia, however, who were eliminated from the competition after their 0-0 draw, which was playing in trying weather conditions when a tropical storm hit Ebebiyín.

The 2012 winners Zambia finished last in Group B with two points and a win would have been just to keep alive hopes of progression.

Today's exit marks the second successive early elimination from the tournament.

It was an unlucky match for both Cape Verde and Zambia as the persistent rain fell hard on the pitch and both sides missed chances to score.

"I'm very sad and disappointed with the result but not with my players," lamented Cape Verde coach Rui Águas.

"They did all they could.

"We missed a lot of chances in three games but we gave 100 per cent, we gave our all."

The action continues in Equatorial Guinea tomorrow with South Africa taking on Ghana and Senegal facing Algeria.
