Samsung will give England players and staff heading to Brazil for the World Cup its latest mobile phone, the S5 ©Getty ImagesSamsung Electronics has struck an agreement with the Football Association (FA) to become the Official Consumer Electronics and Smartphone Supplier to the England team.

As part of the deal, players and staff travelling to Brazil for the World Cup will be given a Samsung Galaxy S5, pre-loaded with features including a heart rate monitor.

"We are extremely excited that Samsung will be supporting the England team as our new Official Consumer Electronics and Smartphone Supplier," said FA Commercial Director Stuart Turner.

"Samsung has a fantastic heritage in football across the globe and in such an important year, the team will be flying out to Brazil with the best possible mobile devices at their fingertips."

Samsung is no stranger to major sporting events, having been a member of The Olympic Programme (TOP) - which currently compromises just 10 major companies - since Nagano 1998,

The company's UK & Ireland President, Andy Griffiths, said: "We are thrilled to partner with the England football team ahead of what is set to be an exciting summer of football.

"Samsung has a long association with football both in the UK and globally and we're delighted that this partnership adds to our on-going commitment to all football fans.

"We wish the England team the best of luck this summer and are proud that the players and staff will be equipped with the latest Samsung technology."

England's first World Cup game kicks off on June 14 in Manaus when they play Italy, with Uruguay and Costa Rica also drawn in Group D.

The tournament, the first to be held in Brazil since 1950, runs from June 12 to July 13.
