The International Skiing Federation (FIS) had last week called on FIFA not to move the World Cup so it interfered with the Olympics, warning that it would be detrimental to them and other winter sports organisations.

Blatter has now moved to allay their fears while on a visit to Doha where he met with leading Qatari officials about the preparations for the 2022 World Cup, which seems certain to have to be moved from its traditional slot in June and July to avoid the searing heat in the Gulf.

"We will not play the [2022] World Cup in January or February," said Blatter.

"We have to have respect for the Olympic family.

"They have the [Winter] Games [in 2022] in February.

"Their media and Games partners are our partners also.

"The FIFA World Cup can only be played in November/December 2022, no way it's going to take place in January/February.

"We have to see how we can have the FIFA World Cup played in winter, but only November/December are possible."
