Michel Platini will wait until the 2014 FIFA World Cup to decide on whether he will run for the FIFA PresidencySeptember 17 - Michel Platini has told UEFA delegates that he will wait until at least next summer's World Cup in Brazil to make a decision on whether he will run for election as FIFA President when Sepp Blatter's current mandate runs out in 2015.

The Frenchman, who currently serves as President of European football's governing body, addressed members of UEFA in Dubrovnik, where their Executive Committee and member associations are due to meet this week to discuss a variety of issues, such as the confirmed bids from cities to host matches at the first European Championships to take place in 13 cities in different nations across the continent in 2020.

"I have not yet decided what will I do in the future, and I want to have a few additional months to think," he said.

"I will take my decision during or after the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, not before."

Platini announced last month that he would not take into consideration the position of current President Blatter, who has hinted at seeking a fifth term at the helm of world football's governing body despite initially being expected to step down at the conclusion of his current term.

But the decision to leave UEFA to take the reins at FIFA is still proving a difficult one for the 58-year-old Platini to make.

"I deeply love UEFA, and it would be heart-breaking to choose another path, but at the same time, the question continuously pops up and it is a legitimate one," said the two-time Ballon D'Or winner.

"This is the reason why it is important for me to take my time, to make sure I take the right decision.

"Furthermore, these elections are in two years' time, and I think it would be egotistical of me to make it a topic for debate or discussion now when football faces much more important issues than me or my situation.

"Let's concentrate on the key current matters and we will have the occasion to think about my future in the coming months."

Blatter and Platini have not always seen eye-to-eye in their visions for the future of football.

Platini has publicly lambasted the introduction of goal-line technology in football and ensured that it would not be used in UEFA competitions, saying that he felt the funding required would be better-spent elsewhere, whilst Blatter took a swipe at the Frenchman earlier this year, claiming that his vision for a 2020 pan-European Championships "lacked heart and soul".
