169365346May 23 - Wolfsburg pulled off a shock victory against French side Lyon at Stamford Bridge to deny them a third-successive UEFA Women's Champions League title, ensuring that both the men's and women's trophies would be leaving London and heading to Germany this week.

Despite dominating the match throughout, the current French and European champions struggled to break through the resilient Wolfsburg defence, who were fresh from lifting their first Bundesliga title earlier this month and their first national cup just last weekend.

And it was the hero from their 3-2 victory against Turbine Potsdam in the German cup final that scored the solitary goal in the Champions League Final to secure the treble for Wolfsburg.

Martina Müller bagged two goals in the German Cup final just last Sunday (May 19) to lead her side to victory, and she stepped up to slot home from the spot with 17 minutes left on the clock when Lyon defender Laura Georges handled the ball in her own penalty box.

The German side held on despite a nervy final period to finally bring an end to Lyon's incredible record of 120 games without defeat in regulation time, with German international defender Lena Goessling being named as the player of the match after producing a solid display to shut out the dominant force in women's football.

And there will be more European glory for Germany in the men's competition as arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich face-off in the first ever all-German UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday (May 25).
