SOEE encompasses a diverse range of cultures, languages and customs and has a commitment to promoting respect, acceptance, inclusion and human dignity for people with intellectual disabilities through sports.

"We willingly and enthusiastically accepted the invitation from Special Olympics to form a partnership," said UEC President David Lappartient.

"We are strongly convinced that cycling breaks down all barriers and that all children, on their bikes, are the same.

"Cycling shapes character and gives courage but above all teaches loyalty, respect of one's opponent and helps to educate people who in the near future will make an important contribution to society.

"This is a philosophy that is fully embraced by the values of Special Olympics who I would like to thank for giving us the opportunity through this agreement, to be part of their family."

Regional President of SOEE, Mary Davis, added: "It is an honour for us at Special Olympics to partner with the Union Européenne de Cyclisme.

"Through this relationship our two organisations will provide more opportunities in cycling for children and adults with intellectual disabilities across Europe Eurasia.

"Cycling has significantly grown in popularity with Special Olympics athletes and now we are delighted to have the support of the UEC to grow the fantastic sport of cycling even further."
