The male quartet of Ed Clancy, Jon Dibben, Owain Doull and Andy Tennant stopped the clock on 4min 11.545sec to beat Germany in the final by almost a second after the female foursome of Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker, Ciara Horne and Laura Trott had posted a time of 4:38.391 to beat Russia by just less than seven seconds.

The events were held on on the outdoor and uncovered 333 metres Velodrome Amedee Detraux on the Caribbean island, an overseas department of France.

The conventional size for tracks is 250m.

It is the fourth time in five years that both team pursuit squads have triumphed at the Championships.

But this year's victories carried extra significance as the meeting is the first to carry qualifying points for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Britain's medal count for the day was taken to three when Clancy won bronze in the scratch race, behind Belgium's Otto Vergaerde and Spain's Eloy Teruel Rovira.

The German trio of Robert Forstemann, Tobias Wachter and Joachim Eilers won the men's team sprint ahead of France and Russia, while in the equivalent women's event, the Russian duo of Elena Brezhniva and Anastasiia Voinova prevailed with Germany in second and The Netherlands in third.

The women's points race was won by Poland's Eugenia Bujak, while Belgium's Kelly Druyts and Italy's Elena Cecchini claimed silver and bronze respectively.

Tomorrow's schedule includes the men's sprint, omnium and points race, along with the women's sprint and scratch race.
