Speaking to insidethegames, the double world champion in the women's team pursuit said she is looking forward to the Games and is confident she can do well on the track.

"The Welsh team hasn't really got a clear leader at the moment so we'll all just be racing to race hard and see where we come so it will be good fun as well," she said.

"I'm much more confident about the track races.

"I think we've got a really good shot at the track races.

"And I also think that will be really interesting.

"I think there's some really, really strong squads, especially with the fact that you're splitting Great Britain up which means we can all ride.

"So it's just going to be really competitive and we all race each other at things like the Revolution Series, but then you're including Australian riders and Canadian riders who are also really strong nations."

The 19-year-old, who was part of the Great Britain team that defended its world title at the 2014 International Cycling Union (UCI) Track Cycling World Championships in Cali, Colombia, in February, comes into the Games as an athlete ambassador for Dell, the official IT hardware and data centre supporter for the event.

This, explained the 2013 European champion, has been of huge benefit to her preparations for the Games.

"I think because I'm all over the place all the time, it's really good to be organised," she said.

"They've also been really supportive.

"Days like today are completely worked around my events and what I'm training and where I'm racing which is really helpful."

As well as racing on the track, Barker explained that she would love to "have a crack" at the road race, describing the supercourse as a real draw for her compete in both.

"I'd like to do all the track races, points, scratch and individual pursuit, and then have a crack at the road because it's at the end and why not.

"I'll be able to stay in the village for longer and soak up the whole Commonwealth experience and get some more racing in.

"I did the road race course at nationals last year and it is a really, really good course.

"It goes right through the city centre, it's hilly, it's got lots of corners and it's just got a bit of everything.

"It's a really fun course."

The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow are due to get underway on July 23, with events running until August 3.
