Canoe Sprint World CupMarch 19 - Denmark has been awarded a leg of the 2015 Canoe Sprint World Cup, they have announced. 


The event will be held at the country's National Regatta Course on Lake Bagsvaerd in Gladsaxe, 15 kilometres outside the capital Copenhagen.

They were awarded the event following a meeting of International Canoe Federation (ICF) Board of Directors meeting in Glasgow.

"Together with Sport Event Denmark and the City of Gladsaxe we will make the 2015 Canoe Sprint World Cup a celebration of our sport, mixing top level sport performance with spectator friendly surroundings and services," said Ole Tikjøb, President of the Danish Canoe Federation.

"We will continue the work for an ISO (International Organization for Standardisation) certification based on the experiences from the 2012 Marathon World Cup and the 2013 Marathon World Championships."

The Canoe Sprint World Cup is the latest international event to be awarded to Denmark.

"Denmark has developed knowledge and experience in hosting international sports events," said Lars Lundov, chief executive of Sport Event Denmark. 

"Hosting great sports events in Denmark is part of a fully funded government strategy including other spectacular events such as the 2009 IOC (International Olympic Committee) Session and Olympic Congress, the 2011 UCI Road World Championships and the 2011 UEFA Under-21 Football Championships, to mention a few."

The event is scheduled to take place between May 22 until 24, 2015. 

"We are convinced that the City of Gladsaxe in collaboration with the Danish Canoe Federation, the local clubs and Sport Event Denmark can organise a successful 2015 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Denmark," said Karin Søjberg Holst, Mayor of the City of Gladsaxe.
