The Russian Boxing Team overpowered the British Lionhearts in Moscow ©WSBThe Russian Boxing Team continued their impeccable home form in Season V of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) after securing a 5-0 whitewash of the British Lionhearts in Moscow.

Heading into the contest the Russian's fighters were yet to lose a bout in front of their home fans and that record continued in the first contest of the night, with Vasilii Egorov awarded all three rounds of his light flyweight clash against Ashley Williams.

Vladimir Nikitin, the 2013 World Championships silver medallist, replicated Egorov's level of performance in the bantamweight division as he saw off Enrico La Cruz, one of the overseas members of the British Lionhearts team, despite the Dutchman's dogged resistance.

The Russian Boxing Team secured victory on the night in the light welterweight contest, as Vitaliy Dunaytsev consigned Sam Maxwell to his first WSB defeat and the British Lionhearts to a second successive away loss.

The remaining fights merely confirmed the Russian's power as Lionhearts' debutant Daniel Woledge was withdrawn by his corner during his middleweight bout against Petr Khamukov, before the Lionhearts' French heavyweight Abdoulaye Diane was defeated by another 2013 AIBA World Championship silver medallist, Evgeny Tishchenko.

The British Lionhearts will now face the daunting task of travelling to Havana to face the Cuba Domadores on February 20, with the defending champions yet to lose a single fight this season, although that run will be put to the test tomorrow when they face the Mexico Guerreros.

Meanwhile, the Russian's Boxing Team will next be in action on February 21, where they will host a potentially heated encounter in Volgograd with the Ukraine Otamans, who currently lie second in the Group A standings.

The Otamans were in action tonight in Blida,  where they edged the Algeria Desert Hawks 3-2, in a surprisingly close encounter, as the home side were entering the contest still looking for their first victory of their WSB season.

Hasanboy Dusmatov and Mykola Butsenko were awarded unanimous points wins for the Otamans as they race into a 2-0 lead after the light flyweight and bantamweight and appeared to be cruising in West Africa, but light welterweight Mohamed Boudiaf and middleweight Illyas Abbadi fought the Desert Hawks back into the contest with points victories of their own.

It was left to the heavyweights to deliver the conclusive verdict in the fixture and the Otmans Denys Poyatsyka comfortably overcame Bouziane Houna, to leave the Desert Hawks still seeking that elusive win.

Elsewhere in the WSB, Astana Arlans Kazakhstan whitewashed the Puerto Rico Hurricanes 5-0, a result which completed an excellent week for the Group B leaders, after they had also beaten the second placed USA Knockouts by the same score last Sunday (February 8).

Group B also saw Italia Thunder overcome Rafako Hussars Poland 3-2, to continue their unbeaten run, while the weekend's action will see the Argentina Condors travel to face Caciques Venezuela and the USA Knockouts will host the Azerbaijan Baku Fires.
