The South American Games silver medallist and Independence Cup winner secured her nation's first triumph at an AIBA Women's World Championships on day two and, following second and third successive wins in the 69 kilogram, she will now go home a national hero with at least a bronze medal around her neck.

"I am super satisfied with my performance on my third contest here in Jeju," said Bylon.

"My tactic was to keep the distance and I tried to follow the instruction of my coach.

"I am feeling great joy to get a medal for my proud country, Panama in a World Championships."

Chinese Taipei's new sensation Ping Meng Chieh was brought crashing back down to earth today as she was beaten by Thailand's Chuthamat Raksat.

Chieh had defeated defending world champion Josie Gabuco of Philippines in the previous stage of the event but could not repeat this success against the 48 kg number one and Taipei City Cup winner Raksat.

Thailand's success continued in the 64kg class as Southeast Asian Games winner Sudaporn Seesondee reached a career highlight by beating Czech Republic's Martina Schmoranzova and ensuring at least bronze in Jeju City.

China's Yin Junhua only began her boxing career in 2009, but is continuing to shine on the international scene

She won the Asian Games gold medal at Incheon 2014 and the 24-year-old 60 kg boxer has returned to South Korea with gold back in her sights after a third round victory over Bulgaria's EUBC European Women's Continental Championships bronze medallist veteran Denitsa Eliseeva, one of the few boxers to have defeated Ireland's Katie Taylor.

Yin may also have to overcome Taylor in order to secure gold in Jeju with the Irishwoman handed a walkover in her quarter-final bout with Russian two-time AIBA world champion Sofya Ochigava due to injury.

Bulgaria's London 2012 Olympian Stoyka Petrova won the EUBC European Women's Continental Championships earlier this year where she defeated London 2012 Olympic gold medallist Nicola Adams of England.

With Adams' absence in Jeju, Petrova was among the favourites to take gold in the 51kg division.

Her campaign was cut short today, however, as she fell at the feet of Italy's AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships silver medallist Terry Gordini.
