Sofya Ochigava is gearing up to face London 2012 Olympic champion Katie Taylor in the Women's World Boxing Championships quarterfinals ©Getty ImagesRussia will have 10 boxers fighting in the quarter-finals of the Women's World Boxing Championships after the nation continued its domination at the Halla Gymnasium in Jeju City.

The Russian winning spree got underway with two-time world gold medallist Sofya Ochigava defeating Brazil's London 2012 bronze medallist Adriana Araújo in the 60 kilograms class, while Zoia Isaeva secured victory over Turkey's Ayşe Çağırır in the 45 to 48kg competition.

Russian 2010 world champion Elena Savelyeva then overcame Zambia's Sally Mumba in the 54kg class, Anastasiia Beliakova defeated China's Xie Lili in the 64kg, Zinaida Dobrynina secured victory over German Nina Meinke in the 57kg and Iaroslava Iakushina ended Savannah Marshall of England's World Championship campaign with a win in the 75kg.

Elsewhere, Ireland's London 2012 Olympic champion Katie Taylor edged further towards a fifth consecutive women's world boxing title as she successfully took on Mira Potkonen of Finland in the 60kg class.

The victory means Taylor will now face Ochigava in tomorrow's quarterfinal bout.

Another Olympic champion, Claressa Shields of the United States, also continues her World Championships campaign after she overcame Poland's Lidia Fidura in the 75kg competition, however her compatriot Alexandra Love was knocked out of the 45-48kg competition by Indonesia's Aldriani Suguro.

There was joy for French 60kg boxer Estelle Mossely, who defeated Women's Youth World Championships silver medallist and Incheon 2014 Asian Games bronze medal winner Luu Thi Duyen of Vietnam to go through, while Australian Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games champion Shelley Watts eliminated Kazakhstan's Gulzhaina Ubbiniyazova in the same weight class.

"Back in the ring tomorrow against Azerbaijan's Yana Alekseevna [who defeated Ukraine's Iulia Tsyplakova to go through], I am keen and determined," Watts said.

"I set myself a series of goals in January and for this World Championships, and one of them was winning three bouts so I am looking at staying positive to tick another goal off my list."

Joining Alekseevna in the quarterfinals is her compatriot Anna Alimardanova, who secured victory in the 54kg class over Ireland's Commonwealth Games silver medallist Michaela Walsh.

Action is due to contine tomorrow with the quarter=finals.
