Russian city St Petersburg will host two major AIBA World Championships in 2015 and 2016 ©AIBARussian city St Petersburg is set to stage the 2015 Junior World Boxing Championships and the 2016 Youth World Boxing Championships as the International Boxing Association (AIBA) announced the host venues for a number of upcoming Championships as well as Olympic qualifying events.

St Petersburg will host the eighth edition of the Junior World Boxing Championships - formerly known as the Cadet World Championships - which were first staged in Azerbaijani capital Baku in 2001.

Guadalajara in Mexico staged the first Youth World Boxing Championships in 2008 and since then editions have been held every two years with Baku and Yerevan, Armenia hosts in 2010 and 2012 respectively.

This year's Championships took place in Sofia back in April.

Baku will feature once again on the international boxing calendar as it will host the final AIBA Olympic Boxing (AOB) World Olympic Qualifying Event for Rio 2016.

Prior to that, the four regional AOB Qualifying Events will see the African leg take place in Yaounde, Cameroon; the American version in Argentinean capital Buenos Aires; Qian'an, China, will host the Asia/Oceania event with the European final in Istanbul, Turkey.

Kazakhstan's capital city Astana will be the ninth host of the Women's World Boxing Championships in 2016, first held in Scranton in the United States in 2001.

Astana will follow on from Jeju City in South Korea, the venue for this year's event from November 13 to 25.

Jeju City was a late replacement for original hosts Canada who pulled out after being unable to find a suitable venue to suit the dates of the event.

In addition, Taipei City will host next year's Women's Junior and Youth World Championships.

The host cities were announced following a vote at the AIBA Executive Committee meeting currently taking place in Istanbul.
