April 16 - Oliver Flodin (left) was one of three Swedish boxers to emerge with wins at the Youth World Boxing Championships in Sofia ©AIBASweden emerged as the team of the day in Sofia as they won three-from-three at the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Youth World Championships with Agnes Alexiusson, Oliver Flodin and Aluje Araik Ismail all winning their bouts at the Armeec Arena.

Alexiusson's victory was not wholly surprising as she came into the tournament as the defending world and European champion and she got her charge for the lightweight title underway by easily seeing off a gallant Julienne Smith, the South African national champion.

Her efforts were matched by compatriots Flodin and Ismail.

Welterweight Flodin set up a clash with European champion Giorgi Kharabadze of Georgia in the next round after he secured a unanimous points decision win over Austria's Edin Avdic, while Ismail never looked troubled against Greek Alexandros Ntesmont.

"I felt myself pretty good but I was almost too relaxed and I know I have to raise my speed in the next stage of the Championships," said the 18-year-old Flodin.

"I hope I will be able to put pressure on my upcoming Georgian opponent and I will be more focussed than today.

"I am always better after my opening bout."

Elsewhere in the welterweight division there were good wins for China's Zhu Xuangung, Jakub Korbel of the Czech Republic, Carlos Tobar of Guatemala and Irishman John Joyce.

Another Scandinavian, Muhammad Abdilrasoon of Finland, impressed in the light welterweight class, scoring a unanimous points win over Bosnia and Herzegovina's Haris Mesanovic as did Moldovan Vladislav Tugui, Viktor Petrov of Ukraine and New Zealand's Frank Hardy who totally outclassed Ahmad Ghosson of Syria.

Australian Satali Tevi-Fuimaono, Ramil Gadzhyiev of Ukraine, Tunisian Mohamed Mabrouki and Azerbaijan's Shamil Aliyev all set down ominous markers in the middleweight division with 3-0 wins.

On the women's side, the flyweight category continued and saw straight forward wins for Turkey's Neriman Istik, Wiktoria Sadej of Poland and Russian Ekaterina Paltceva while Argentina's Anyelen Espinosa followed up her win over great rival Caitlin Orosco of the United States with another strong showing to overcome fellow South American Asdry Ortiz of Venezuela.

In the women's lightweight division, Alexiusson was not the only boxer to record unanimous points wins as South Korean Park Ji Hye and Daniella Posta of Hungary also impressed.

Tomorrow sees the return of the men's flyweight division while the heavyweight and super heavyweights make their bow in Sofia.

The 2014 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships are due to take place  until April 24.
