It follows a request from the Florida State Athletic Commission to clarify the eligibility of boxers on the home team.

The first leg match was due to take place in Fort Lauderdale this Friday (March 28) but in a short press release issued by the WSB, it has been announced the bout has been postponed after "incorrect information was provided to the Florida State Athletic Commission by the USA Knockouts assistant coach".

When contacted by insidethegames, the International Boxing Federation (AIBA), which oversees the WSB competition, said it did not want to comment further at this stage.

During the brief statement, the WSB went on to say that it emphasised "the importance of clear and mutual understanding with the Florida State Athletic Commission" maintaining no WSB matches have been held in the United States "in violation of the principles and policies of the Commission."

It added that the "WSB has offered to clarify the USA Boxing coach's communication within the next few days."

A new date of April 11 has been set for the match, while the original date of April 4 for the second leg at the Ciudad Deportiva in Havana still stands.

The USA Knockouts team that had been due to take part in the five-bout match included American Steven Fulton, Caleb Plant and Joshua Temple along with Lu Bin of China and the Dominican Republic's Carlos Adames.

The Cuban team are making their debut in the WSB this season and have proved a real force topping their group and losing just six individual bouts along the way.

Their line-up for the postponed fixture consisted of London 2012 bronze medallist Yasnier Toledo along with Yosbany Veitía, Marcos Forestal, , Ramon Luis and Erislandy Savon.

When the match against the USA does take place it will see a senior national Cuban team fighting on American soil for the first time since the 1999 World Championships.

Controversy surrounded the event in Houston after a number of debatable refereeing and judging decisions led to then coach Alcides Sagarra Carón pulling the team out of the competition.

The three other quarter-finals sees Azerbaijan Baku Fires take on Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder, Team Germany versus Astana Arlans Kazakhstan and Russian Boxing Team do battle with Ukraine Otamans.
