Katie Taylor fighting in London 2012 finalNovember 13 - Ireland have been confirmed as the sole bidder for the 2013 Women's Boxing European Championships where lightweight Olympic champion Katie Taylor will be looking to secure her sixth consecutive European title.
.
The European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) has confirmed to insidethegames that they have received a bid from the Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) with a decision set to be made next month.

The competition itself is scheduled to take place in October next year although the exact dates have not yet been confirmed and the EUBC are still waiting for Ireland to give the necessary guarantees before an official announcment is made.

Should Ireland secure the event, it would be a huge boost for country and their superstar boxer Taylor.

The 26-year-old from County Wicklow has long been the dominant force in women's boxing but she shot to stardom at London 2012 when she became the first ever female lightweight Olympic champion in history as she defeated Russia's Sofya Ochigava 10-8 in the gold medal bout at ExCeL.

It was the latest title in a long list for Taylor as she is a four-time world champion and a five-time European champion.

However, all of her international titles have been won outside of Ireland meaning that next year could be her chance to win a major title on home soil.
