Hungary will host the FIBA 3x3 Under 18 World Championships ©FIBAHungary has been awarded the 2015 3x3 Basketball Under-18 World Championships after two other countries turned down the opportunity to host the event, it was announced today.

Due to take place from June 4 until 7, the fourth edition of the Championships will see 24 men's and women's teams take part.

Hungary is the third choice to host the tournament after both Israel and now Tunisia renounced the right to organise the event.

Israel was originally scheduled to host the event when FIBA made the announcement in February, only to be forced to withdraw due to the unrest in the region.

Tunisia then picked up the mantle just last month only to have to pull-out.

No reason was given for the decision.

Despite the trauma in finding a suitable host, FIBA will be hoping for further success in these Championships following the positive feedback from the events in Rimini, Italy, in 2011, Alcobendas, Spain, in 2012 and Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2013.

The event is held on an annual basis, except the year of the Summer Youth Olympic Games.

This year's event in Nanjing again showed the progress of the 3x3 discipline with this version of the game once again the only basketball discipline played at the Games.

Lithuania and the United States took top honours in the men's and women's competitions at this event with the US women also winning gold at the 2012 and 2013 Under-18 World Championships.

Hungary were also among the medals at the 2013 World Championships after János Mike took gold in the Free Throw Pursuit contest.

The 2015 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championships will follow the same competition format as the Open World Championships with men's and women's competitions, as well as individual contests.

No host city has yet been revealed by FIBA or the Hungarian Basketball Federation.
