National sides from across FIBA's five continental zones, along with the star-studded Americans who clinched a place by winning the gold medal at the London Olympics, will be at the tournament, due to begin on September 27.

Turkey, as hosts, were assured a spot in the Championships, with the other 14 teams booking their places through a series of regional qualifiers.

Australia, winners of the 2006 edition in Brazil and the number two side in the FIBA world rankings, sealed their place with a triumph over New Zealand in the Oceania Championship.

Europe has the largest contingent of teams making their way to the Championships with six teams, including Turkey, booking their spot through last year's Women's EuroBasket event.

Winners Spain, runners-up France, fourth place Serbia, fifth place Belarus and sixth place Czech Republic will all make their way to the Turkish financial capital later this year following their performances at the competition.

Serbia are making their debut at the World Championships.

Another nation competing for the first time will be the Southern African country of Mozambique who booked their spot after making their way to the final of the Women's AfroBasket 2013.

The team they lost to in the final, Angola, will also be competing.

Cuba missed the 2010 FIBA World Championship in the Czech Republic but they made a thunderous return to the big stage by capturing the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship.

The team they beat in the fFinal, Canada, as well as third-place Brazil also qualified.

Japan, South Korea and China were first, second and third, respectively, at the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship and sealed places in Turkey.
